What is Debt Consolidation?
You may be in a position where you can afford to pay some of your debts, but you simply cannot mange to pay the whole amount at once. Through the debt consolidation process, you hire an attorney or someone else to negotiate with your creditors to accept less than you owe to settle your debt.
Unlike Chapter 13 bankruptcy, however, your creditors do not have to accept debt negotiation or consolidation. If one of your creditors refuses to go along, then you could still face adverse creditor actions such as wage garnishment or harassment.
Do I Need an Attorney for Debt Consolidation or Negotiation?
